Digital pathology helps KDL Pathology offer improved care and turnaround time for difficult cases

Dr. Paul Googe was reappointed in the School of Medicine at Vanderbilt University as Clinical Professor of Pathology, Microbiology, and Immunology. The reappointment will go in to effect July 1, 2014 through June 30, 2015.

Bruce R. Smoller, M.D., an international leader in the study of skin diseases, will take his place as chair of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Rochester Medical Center.

KDL Pathology Implements Automated Specimen Tracking, Achieves Increase in Data Efficiency

East Tennessee laboratory implements latest software, improving accuracy and reporting. As a part of its on-going quality assurance program, KDL implemented automated processes that include a 2D bar coding system for specimen and slide identification. The new workflow and software system have drastically reduced the possibility of human error and substantially reduced the amount of time required to present highly accurate reporting.  “Since implementing the tech solution in early 2012, KDL has achieved dramatic results with a 70 percent increase in efficiency and automated accuracy,” reported Dr. Ranee Taylor, COO of KDL Pathology. “Additionally, the new system has saved at least 20 hours of manpower each week, cutting down the need for tracking paperwork and matching results to paperwork manually.” This saved time has enabled the KDL team to focus on its mission of providing high-quality consultative services for physicians and their patients. KDL acquires Digital Pathology
January 2, 2012
Knoxville Dermatopathology Laboratory has implemented a Digital Pathology solution. The Ventana iScan Coreo digital scanner allows walk away scanning of up to 160 slides. The Ventana Virtuoso image management software combines rich functionality with a user-friendly interface to deliver a complete Digital Pathology solution. This solution allows for anywhere, anytime thin client image viewing with a microscope-like viewing interface that allows panning and zooming of an image at various magnifications. KDL can now host virtual peer review sessions as well as creating digital slide libraries of “interesting” cases for dermatopathology education.
